In addition to appeals arising from the firm's core regulatory practice before the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (Pa. PUC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), HMS regularly represents clients before all of Pennsylvania's appellate courts, primarily in matters involving the interaction between state government and regulated businesses and professions, but also in other areas of the law.  In addition to our appellate practice, HMS lawyers frequently appear in original jurisdiction cases before the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania challenging government action affecting health care providers, insurers, the gaming industry, and businesses and municipalities subject to environmental regulation.

HMS lawyers also frequently partner with trial counsel from other firms to provide assistance in navigating the appeal process or to manage every aspect of an appeal, from filing to briefing and argument.

HMS partner Kevin McKeon, who has handled numerous appeals and original jurisdiction cases before the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania, co-authors the standard appellate procedure text in Pennsylvania, West's Pennsylvania Appellate Practice.
