PUC to Hold Electric Summer Reliability Forum

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will hold a Summer Reliability Forum at 1:30 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2012.  The Forum will be held in Hearing Room 1 of the PUC’s Harrisburg offices.

The Summer Reliability Forum is being held to examine circumstances and events that could affect the supply, price and reliability of electric service during the 2012 summer months.

At this time, it is expected that PUC Chairman Robert F. Powelson will provide general remarks, which will be followed by presentations given by PUC staff, PJM Interconnection LLC, the Energy Association of Pennsylvania, electric utilities and electric industry experts.

Topics to be discussed during the Forum include:  (1) forecasted load and capacity; (2) adequacy of generation and transmission service and facilities; (3) electric distribution system reliability; and (4) the 2012 Summer Reliability Assessment performed by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC).  NERC assesses and reports on the reliability and adequacy of the bulk power system in the eight Regional Areas of North America.

An agenda for the Forum will be posted on the PUC’s website (www.puc.state.pa.us) shortly before the meeting date.

The PUC’s existing Electric Reliability Standards can be found at 52 Pa. Code §§ 57.191 – 57.197.
