HMS Legal Wins Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Appeal

Not every workplace dispute ends when the employee leaves.

HMS Legal congratulates Associate KC Read-Fisher on a recent win before the Pennsylvania Unemployment Compensation Board of Review on behalf of an energy and fuel delivery employer. KC represented the employer at the referee hearing, built the record that carried through to the appeal, and successfully defended the favorable decision before the UC Board. The UC Board affirmed the denial of unemployment compensation, credited the employer’s evidence and testimony, and rejected the claimant’s attempt to turn a reassignment offer into a retaliation claim.

Since joining HMS Legal in August and being admitted to the bar in October, KC has focused part of her practice on labor and employment law, with particular emphasis on unemployment compensation matters. Her prior externship with the UC Board gives her more than textbook knowledge. She understands how these cases are reviewed, what records matter on appeal, and how to position clients from the first hearing forward.

This win is part of HMS Legal’s broader work helping clients navigate employment-related disputes after the workplace relationship ends. Great work, KC!
